Equality in the sciences and academia

• Virginia Valian's book Why so slow? is thought-provoking, well written, and full of data. Recommended reading for everyone.
• Dr. Valian is also involved in the Gender Equity Project, which among other things provides some very useful tutorials on gender schemas in the sciences.
• Beyond Bias and Barriers: Fulfilling the Potential of Women in Academic Science in Engineering, authored by a committee from several national science organizations, is long but interesting.
• Excellent post from Athene Donald on the language used in recommendation letters and how it can affect perception of applicants.

• The usual suspects: SPM, FSL, FreeSurfer, AFNI, and SUMA.
• BrainVISA/Anatomist.
• SnPM for nonparametric statistics and SPMd for exploratory data analysis.
• MarsBaR region of interest toolbox for SPM
• Chris Rorden's excellent MRIcron and MRIcroGL for visualization
• The SPM Anatomy toolbox provides cytoarchitectonic probabilities in MNI space.
• The non-stationarity toolbox accounts for non-stationarity in data (e.g. in VBM studies, see Ashburner & Friston, 2000) and permits the use of cluster extent correction for these data within SPM.
• Donald McLaren's excellent gPPI toolbox for functional connectivity (PPI) analyses.

• Geoff Aguirre has a fantastic series of lectures on the fundamentals of fMRI.
• Jody Culham's fMRI 4 Newbies has some excellent information, much of it in the form of powerpoint slides.
• Most of the major analysis software packages have mailing lists going back several years with a lot of helpful discussion. I have made particular use of the SPM and FSL archives.
• The MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences unit imaging wiki.
• Ged Ridgway has some very helpful VBM scripts.
• Chris Rorden has an introductory tutorial in neuroanatomy.
